Turn your existing mark scheme into a Marksmith Pro file
Paste in your mark scheme text — from Word, a PDF, a spreadsheet, anywhere — and I'll convert it and email you the file. Usually back within 1–2 working days.
What happens
Paste your scheme
Copy the text from Word, a PDF, or a spreadsheet and paste it in. Tell me the subject, level, and what it's for.
I review and convert it
I check it, run the conversion, and make sure the output looks right before sending. Usually done within 1–2 working days.
I email you the file
You get a .marksmith file by email — import it into Marksmith Pro and it's ready to use.
Send your mark scheme
Free. No account needed. I'll email the file back — usually within 1–2 working days.
What do I need to include?
For the conversion to work well, your mark scheme needs:
-
Mark ranges (the bands)
What marks go with each level? E.g. "0–3", "4–6", "7–9", "10" — or grades like "Distinction / Merit / Pass". Without these, I can't split the rubric into levels. -
Descriptors for each band
The written criteria for each mark range — what the work actually looks like at that level. The more complete this is, the better the converted file.
What works well:
- ✓ Text copied from a Word document or spreadsheet
- ✓ Text copied from an AQA or school-adapted PDF (Ctrl+A, Ctrl+C)
- ✓ Criteria typed out or reformatted by hand
- ✗ Mark schemes with no clear mark ranges or bands
You'll need Marksmith Pro to use the file
It's free to download for Windows. Import the converted file and your mark scheme is ready to use — no setup, no re-entering criteria.
